Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my Phoenix UAS mrid with the FAA?
Locate the serial number of your module. It can be found on the packaging on the label. On the label, look for “SN: 1961FA”. The serial number starts with 1961FA followed by many zeros. Alternatively you can use an app like OpendroneID to find the serial number that is broadcast by your module.

Are there any firmware updates?
Yes, version 1.0.2 was released Jan 27, 2024.
Updated the altitude value being sent to the flight controller.
Starting Jan 27, 2024 we have added the shipping firmware version to the label on the packaging.
Version 1.0.1 was released Jan 17, 2024.
Updates include a Home Direction arrow that is accurate in Betaflight and we now recommend using GPS rescue. Note that to use these two features, you will need to either flash Betaflight 4.5.1 or 4.6.0-DEV.
We’ve slowed down the baud rate on the mRID to flight controller UART that sends GPS data via the MSP protocol, based on inputs from the Betaflight devs to give the flight controller a little more breathing room. This means you’ll need to change the settings on your ports tab in both Betaflight and iNav for your GPS UART and update the baud rate from 115200 to 57600.
We’ve enhanced our algorithm that makes the handshake with the GPS to allow additional M10 GPS units to work with the mRID module.

Do I need a gps module?
Yes, you will need to use any M10 based Ublox gps module.
Are there any 3d prints available?
Yes,
We have posted the 3d model of the mRID here so you can model a custom solution for your aircraft.
There is one mount available for download with a 20mm X 20mm mount to download and use also available. mRID 20 x 20 mount.
How do I protect my Phoenix UAS mRID module from crashes
Depending on where you mount in, this 3d print might work, or tuck it inside the frame and wrap with some Kapton tape, or clear shrink wrap.
I want to use GPS in Betaflight, what do I need?
The Betaflight Configurator, version 10.9 or greater
Betaflight firmware 4.3 or greater, 4.5.1 for GPS Rescue and Home Direction Arrow
Currently, GPS MSP passthrough to Betaflight supports Longitude, Lattitude, speed and distance from home. Long, Lat, speed, distance flown and distance from home displayed in the OSD are accurate using Betaflght 4.3 and 4.4. You will need at least Betaflight 4.5.1 to use the home direction pointer and GPS rescue.
I want to use gps in Inav what do I need?
iNav firmware, we’ve tested with 6.1 and 7.1
I want to use GPS in Ardupilot, what do I need?
We have customers who have successfully used the Phoenix UAS mRid module with Ardupilot. The Uart for your serial port needs to use the MSP protocol.
